My Sleeping Gypsy

Union of Artists of Ukraine

My Sleeping Gypsy hero

"A poetic, bohemian aesthetic — inspired by 1970s style and Henri Rousseau's painting The Sleeping Gypsy."

I. The Style

A loose linen sleeve, billowing at the cuff. A dropped shoulder. A hand-cut Richelieu collar that catches the Mediterranean light like a second skin of lace.

Dressing for the woman who chooses the white linen dress over the bikini — who knows that an embroidered hem turns a terrace into a stage.

II. The Art

My Sleeping Gypsy works the way a painter works. The house collaborates with British artist Beth Rodway, translating her paintings Tyger Tyger Burning Bright and Tsushima into hand-embroidered linen pieces.

Signature techniques: Ukrainian satin stitch for dense floral surface, and hand-cut Richelieu for openwork lace. Founded by a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine.

III. The Ethic

No recycled-polyester story. No carbon-offset receipt. Sustainability older than the word itself — linen sourced for water economy, silk for luminosity, an animal-free wardrobe with ethically sourced Mongolian cashmere as the sole exception for winter.

Production is fully owned and based in Kyiv. The founder knows the name of every embroiderer.

IV. Heritage

The Vyshyvanka is not a garment but a language. Its ornaments carry centuries of protective symbolism: solar discs for fertility, geometric serpents for renewal, floral crosses for harmony with the earth.

Drawing from the embroidery vocabularies of the Hutsul highlanders, the wedding shirts of Bukovyna, and the votive cloths of the Carpathian highlands. Each motif preserved or quoted — never simplified for export.
