The silyanka is the beaded collar of the Hutsul people — the highland community of the Ukrainian Carpathians, whose textile and bead traditions remain among the most distinctive in Eastern Europe. Worn close to the throat, sometimes layered three or four deep, the silyanka was once part of every Hutsul woman's daily dress: a piece worn not for special occasions but for the rhythm of ordinary life.
We design our silyanka pieces in dialogue with this archive — drawing directly from the historical collection of the Museum of Folk Art and Life of the Hutsul Region in Kosiv, where the oldest surviving examples are preserved.
This piece is built around a geometric diamond pattern — one of the oldest motifs in Carpathian beadwork. Researchers interpret the diamond as a symbol of the feminine principle in nature: fertility, continuity, the rooted strength of the matrilineal line that has carried these traditions forward for centuries.
The lower edge is finished with hand-looped beadwork, the silhouette that traditionally framed the collarbone and caught the light when the wearer moved.
The Craft
Each silyanka is hand-strung bead by bead — there is no shortcut, no machine equivalent. The construction is engineered for durability: high-quality glass beads on a reinforced thread, with a secure clasp designed for easy, single-handed fastening.
Hand-woven from start to finish. No two pieces are identical.
How to Wear
The silyanka is most striking when layered. Wear it alone close to the throat, or stack two or three pieces of varying widths for the traditional Hutsul silhouette. Equally beautiful with:
